The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) concentration prepares nurses to lead with advanced clinical expertise, compassionate care and evidence-based practice. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the program gives students the Spartan edge through hands-on clinical learning, leadership development and opportunities to serve diverse communities across the region. MSN-FNP graduates are prepared to pursue Family Nurse Practitioner certification and advance their impact in today’s evolving healthcare landscape.

General Requirements

Be a registered nurse (RN), licensed to practice in California with a Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) or an RN with a Bachelor’s degree in another field.

Applicant has at least one (1) year of prior nursing experience is suggested at the time of application

Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BSN) or

Applicant has a Baccalaureate degree in another field, plus an Associate degree in Nursing (ADN)

Personal statement describing the applicant’s interest.

A short video submission describing the applicant’s interest.

Submit a current resume or curriculum vitae.

Two letters of recommendation from professionals in the field.
Program-Specific Requirements

One year of RN clinical nursing experience following RN licensure.

Two years of acute care nursing experience is preferred.

Demonstrate expertise in conducting a full physical assessment and health history for a healthy adult of any gender in under sixty minutes.

- Culminating Experience: This project shall identify a clinical problem and question(s), state the major theoretical perspectives, explain the significance of the undertaking, relate it to relevant, scholarly and professional literature, set forth the appropriate sources for and methods of gathering and analyzing the data and offer a conclusion or recommendation.

Valuable Learning Experiences
The MSN, Family Nurse Practitioner concentration, prepares you to advance your career through expert clinical training, evidence-based practice and compassionate patient care. Offered by The Valley Foundation School of Nursing, the program strengthens advanced assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills while preparing you to provide primary and preventative care across diverse communities.
Additionally, the MSN-FNP degree meets the criteria specified in Section 1484, Title XVI of the California Administrative Code, and is fully approved by the California BRN. Graduates are eligible to seek national certification by taking either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) FNP exam or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) exam.
