San Jos茅 State students voted in a general election to establish the Student Union project through an additional student fee, turning the vision of a centralized student space into a reality.

馃帀Fall 1969 Student Union Opens

The Student Union officially opened its doors, becoming a central hub for student life, programs, services, and community engagement on campus. The project cost exceeded $5 million, including furnishings.

馃强1980s Students Invest in Campus Recreation

Following the model established in the 1960s, students voted through multiple elections to fund new recreational and event facilities through additional student fees.

馃挧May 1988 Aquatic Center Opens

The Aquatic Center opened, expanding recreational and wellness opportunities for students and the campus community.

馃彑锔May 1989 Event Center Opens

The Event Center officially opened as a major venue for athletics, entertainment, campus programming, and large-scale student events.

馃弹锔2006 Student Center Facilities Project Approved

The Student Center Facilities Project was approved through alternative consultation, launching plans for the expansion and renovation of the Student Union and the construction of a new recreation facility.

馃彚2016 Diaz Compean Student Union Completed

The expanded and renovated Diaz Compean Student Union was completed, modernizing campus spaces and enhancing the student experience through updated facilities and services.

馃挭Spring 2019 SRAC Completed

The remodeled Spartan Recreation & Aquatic Center (SRAC) officially opened, featuring state-of-the-art fitness, wellness, recreation, and social spaces for students.

馃挕Student-Funded Facilities

Student Union facilities are funded through student fees, which support bond repayment and operational costs. No state tax dollars are used for the construction or operation of these facilities.
